Vinho Verde - Baião is a sub-region of the Vinho Verde wine region located in Portugal. Named after the Baião municipality in Porto district, this region is known for producing high-quality Vinho Verde wines, especially those made from Avesso and Arinto varieties.
The climate in Baião is more Mediterranean than the rest of the Vinho Verde region, with less rainfall and a greater variation between day and night temperatures. This unique climate, combined with the granite and schist-based soils, contributes to the production of wines with a distinct character - full-bodied, high in acidity and very fruity.
Major varieties of grapes grown in the region are Avesso, Arinto, Azal, Malvasia Fina, and Loureiro for white wines; and Vinhão and Azal Tinto for red wines. Baião is particularly known for Avesso wines, which are considered as some of the best white wines in Portugal.
Vinho Verde - Baião wines are quite versatile and pair well with a variety of foods, such as fish, shellfish, poultry, and vegetarian dishes. They are best served chilled and enjoyed young.
