Dão – Terras de Senhorim is a Portuguese wine region located in the Dão DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada), which is in the Beira Interior of Portugal. It is a sub-region of the larger Dão region and is known for its unique microclimate and landscape.
Nestled among the mountains, the vineyards of Terras de Senhorim are protected from the harsh coastal winds and the extreme temperature variations of the inland areas, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly and fully. The soils are a mix of granite and schist, which lend a distinctive minerality to the wines.
Primarily, the region is well-regarded for its high-quality red wines, predominantly produced from the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Jaen grape varieties. These wines are often full-bodied, complex, and rich in tannins with potential for long aging.
However, Dão - Terras de Senhorim also produces white wines, mainly from Encruzado and Malvasia Fina varieties, which are appreciated for their freshness, aromatic complexity and elegant structure.
