The Paso Robles Geneseo District is a sub-appellation of the larger Paso Robles AVA (American Viticultural Area) in California, USA. It was officially established in 2014 alongside 10 other sub-regions to highlight the diversity of the soils and climates within the Paso Robles AVA.
The district is named after the historic farming community of Geneseo, which dates back to the 1800s. It covers a total area of about 16,330 acres in the southeastern part of the Paso Robles AVA, and is known for its undulating topography, loam and clay soils, and warm climate.
The region is characterized by warm daytime temperatures which are ideal for ripening grapes, and cool nights that help to maintain the fruit's natural acidity. These growing conditions, coupled with the unique soil composition, make the Paso Robles Geneseo District particularly suitable for producing high-quality red wines, notably Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel.
This district is home to several vineyards and wineries that have a strong reputation for producing well-balanced and complex wines. Among these, some offer tastings and tours that offer insight into the winemaking process unique to this region.
